Solutions for cattle breeding

TrophoSYS's innovative methods enable cattle breeding to improve breeding results by separating live and dead cells in the ejaculate, and to enable targeted breeding by separating X and Y chromosome-containing sperm.

The company is breaking new ground worldwide with its live/dead separation process and is currently the only provider with this highly efficient technology. Device development has been completed, toxicity tests have already been successfully conducted, and the necessary field studies have begun.

TrophoSYS is taking a unique approach to separating X- and Y-chromosome-containing sperm, using a highly efficient technology that has never been used before. The device development is complete, but the biotechnological finalization of the process is still pending and has not yet been finalized.Even today, in the current proof-of-concept stage, sperm can be separated into female and male cells to over 90%, with almost native cell health and high yield.

Our technologies are based on the utilization of different surface properties of the respective cell species, as well as on the use of specially developed excipient concepts that significantly enhance the differentiation of these surface properties. The actual separation takes place in a device developed by TrophoSYS, which has no negative impact on cell health or even can lead to genetic manipulation.

The success of the separation technology, which has so far been designed for cattle, has led TrophoSYS to already be taking preparatory measures to extend the technology concept to other mammals.

Other areas of livestock breeding are also highly interested in improving and optimizing ejaculates and in a functioning sex-specific separation method.TrophoSYS’ separation technologies represent solutions that can, in principle, enable effective and economical breeding.
